Accessibility checker

Every page is tested against 100+ WCAG 2.2 AA rules and graded by axe-core, the engine most of the industry runs on. Each problem is written the way a site owner would say it, not as a criterion number.

  • WCAG 2.2 AA, graded by axe-core
  • Plain English, not criterion numbers

Why it matters

What a scan actually gives you.

  • Every page, not a sample

The scan walks your whole connected site on your plan’s page allowance, so a problem on page 90 is found as reliably as one on the homepage.

  • Written the way you speak

“Text too light to read”, not “1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum)”. You should not have to learn WCAG’s numbering to know what is wrong.

  • Ordered by what it costs you

Findings are ranked by real-world lawsuit exposure rather than alphabetically, so the top of the list is the part worth doing first.

  • Graded by axe-core

The same engine most of the industry audits with, so your score is comparable to what a consultant’s tooling would report.

  • Honest about its own limits

Roughly a third of WCAG needs human judgement. Those 16 checks are listed separately instead of being quietly skipped or guessed at.

  • Free on five pages, forever

One site, five pages, re-scanned monthly, no card. You see the whole problem list before you decide whether to pay.

How it works

Three steps, no vocabulary to learn.

  1. Connect the site

WordPress through the plugin, Shopify through the app, any other site with one script tag. No code changes, nothing for your visitors to download.

  2. The scanner reads each page as assistive technology does

Headings, landmarks, names, contrast, focus order: the same structure a screen reader has to work with.

  3. You get a ranked list, in plain English

“Text too light to read” instead of a criterion number, with the pages it appears on and what fixing it involves. Ranked by legal exposure, not alphabetically.

What the scan does, step by step.

Three things worth seeing up close: how a page is read, how the findings get ordered, and what a finding actually looks like when you open it.

It reads your page the way assistive technology has to.

Headings, landmarks, names, contrast, focus order: the structure a screen reader actually works with. Scanning runs on our servers, so nothing heavy happens on yours.

  • 100+ WCAG 2.2 AA rules
  • Runs on our servers, not your host
  • Re-scanned on your plan’s cadence
The scan results screen: four findings, each with a severity chip and the number of pages it appears on.

A score, and an order worth working through.

axe-core grades each finding from minor to critical; the ranking then weighs that against what actually draws complaints, so the list reads as a plan rather than an inventory.

  • Severity from axe-core, order by exposure
  • A score, with the caveat stated plainly
  • The score is not a compliance claim
A score of 68 across 122 pages tested, above a list of four findings ordered by legal exposure.

The same finding, in a sentence you can act on.

Every problem is named in plain language, with the pages it appears on and what fixing it involves. If you work with a developer, any issue can also produce a brief with the corrected snippet.

  • No criterion numbers to decode
  • Shows which pages are affected
  • Developer brief on request
A comparison: criterion numbers on the left as other scanners report them, plain-English sentences on the right as AbleGuard reports them.

Frequently asked questions

About accessibility checker. The product-wide questions are on the features page.

Which WCAG version does it test?

WCAG 2.2 at level AA. If you see “2.1” anywhere in older material, it is stale.

Do I need to install anything?

On WordPress, the plugin. On Shopify, the app. Everywhere else, one script tag in your site’s head. Scanning itself runs on our servers, not yours.

Is the free check really free?

Yes. One site, five pages, re-scanned monthly, no card. It gives you the full problem list and score; fixing needs a paid plan.
